Levershunts komen,
behalve bij honden ook bij andere dieren voor. Het is een
bloedvatverbinding vanaf de darm naar het hart, buiten de lever om.
Normaal moet het van de darm komende bloed dat met voeding beladen
is, eerst door de lever stromen om te worden gereinigd, voor dat het
naar het hart gaat. Er komen te veel giftige stoffen in het bloed
zoals ammoniak. De hond is zich zelf dus aan het vergiftigen.
Hierdoor worden de vitale delen aangetast en ook de hersens. Als u
hier niet vlug genoeg bij bent, dan is uw hond waarschijnlijk al te
ver aangetast om geopereerd te worden. Als u de hond niet laat
behandelen zal hij binnen het jaar sterven. Deze afwijking is te
onderzoeken voordat de pup de leeftijd van 7 weken heeft bereikt. Er
wordt dan een buisje bloed afgetapt van een ader in de hals of poot.
De uitslag is binnen een kwartier af te lezen. Het is via de
rasvereniging niet verplicht om de pups te laten testen. Wij willen
u als pupkoper behoeden voor deze aandoening en testen daarom onze
pups voor ze het nest verlaten.U krijgt testuitslag van ons mee,deze
verklaring word afgegeven door onze dierenarts hij is tevens de
clubarts van onze rasvereniging Commedia.

Livershunts do not only seen in dogs but also in other animals.A Liver Shunt is a condition in which a portion of the blood in the body by-passes the liver and goes directly to the heart. Toxins especially ammonia build up in the blood stream and the dog has seizures due to increased ammonia levels. The liver is usually smaller than normal and will have decreased liver function. Secondary liver infection can occur but this plays a minimal role in the liver shunt syndrome. It is the bypassing of the blood through the liver that is the major problem.We do check our puppy's when they are 7 weeks old on the livershuntvaluetest.
